Obituary for Eva Hilja Hakala

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Eva Hilja Hakala announce her passing on Saturday, September 8th at her home in Thunder Bay.
Eva was born June 17th, 1932 in Karjala, Finland. After emigrating to Canada in 1951 with her family, Eva worked for the Great Lakes Paper Company, where she met her future husband, Sulo Hakala. She was a lifelong member of both Hilldale Lutheran Church and the Ladies of Kaleva. Eva had many passions including poetry, cooking, and sewing, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends at her hideaways at Pike Lake and South Gillies.

Eva was predeceased by her father Vaino Romu, mother Elizabeth Kuurila, brothers Matti, Antti, and Lauri Romu, husband Sulo and grandson Matti Hakala.

She is survived by her sons Allan and Brian (Helen), grandchildren: Vilija, Will, Thomas, Sarah, Karl, and Monika Hakala as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services for our Mummu will be held at Hilldale Lutheran Church on Friday, September 14th at 1:00pm with Pastor Jari Lahtinen officiating. Interment will follow at Hymers Cemetery.
