Obituary for Margaret Stinson
Margaret Ruth Stinson (nee Jones) age 95 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in Roseview Manor.
Margaret was born in Fort William, Ontario on July 8, 1922 to parents Thomas and Emma Jones. She graduated from Nursing at McKellar in 1943 and served in the Army in Winnipeg during WWII. At the end of the war she returned to Thunder Bay, married Gordon Stinson and moved to Kingston while Gord attended Queen’s. They then returned to Thunder Bay and on to Toronto until 1974. She then spent her remaining years in Thunder Bay. She was a lifelong member of the Silver Islet Campers Association.
Margaret was a tireless volunteer for her church and community. She was the first woman to Chair the Official Board for Northminster United Church in Willowdale, worked and held various positions in the UCW at Northminster and St. Paul’s United Church in Thunder Bay. Volunteered for the Thunder Bay Symphony and local hospitals. She and Gordon were active members of the St. Paul’s Fellowship Club.
Margaret will be lovingly remembered by Gordon Stinson, her husband of 71 years; children Joan Stulac, Lois Watson, Jim Stinson (Toni) and daughter-in-law Christine, sister-in-law Connie Stinson and by her grandchildren: Paul (Karen), Michael (Kerri), Danny (Suzy), Madeleine and Nicole, her great-granddaughter: Riley Margaret as well as her many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Margaret is predeceased by her parents, siblings and son Tom, and great grandson Reid Stulac.
Thank you to the staff at Cheshire at Roseview Manor for their care, compassion and attention to both Mom and the family during her time there.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 in the Chapel of Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Margaret’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay or St. Paul’s United Church.
